"North America's Forests"

Introduction
Students have read about the conservation efforts of President Roosevelt. In this lesson, students will examine modern-day conservation efforts regarding North America's forest land.

Lesson Description
Students will visit the World Conservation Monitoring Centre Web site to view maps and charts regarding North America's forests. Students will examine maps and charts dealing with the various forest categories and types as well as the protection of these forests. They will answer four questions using the information they have gathered from the graphic material.

Instructional Objectives
1. Students will practice their basic chart and map reading skills.
2. Students will better understand the forest conservation efforts of the United States and Canada.

1. Tropical, Nontropical

3. U.S.—about 3 million square kilometers; Canada-about 5.5 million square kilometers
