Introduction
Students have read about the D-Day invasion of World War II.
In this lesson, they will learn more about the event by studying
a map of the invasion.

Students will go onto the PBS Web site and study information
and a map about the D-Day invasion. They will then answer
questions about the material.

answer questions about its information.

2. The most likely explanation of the "D" in "D-Day"
is that it simply referred to the "day" of invasion.
Planners would refer to an event as "D-Day" either
because they had not yet decided upon an exact date or because
they wanted to keep their plans secret.
3. They dropped paratroopers behind German lines.
4. Paratroopers faced heavy fog and fire from German guns.
Also, if the assault by sea failed, there would be no rescue
for these paratroopers dropped behind enemy lines.
