Chapter 2: Early Civilizations

INTRODUCTION
Students have read about early civilizations. In this activity
they will focus on the period in Egyptian civilization known
as the New Kingdom and read about significant developments
during that period.
Lesson
Description
Students will go to the Egypt: History-The New Kingdom Web
site to read a discussion of major events of the New Kingdom.
They will then answer four questions about what they have
read.

1. The students will learn about major developments of the
New Kingdom.
2. The students will understand how power is exercised in

1. He was still young and easily influenced by the priests
to renounce his father-in-law's monotheism.
2. A wazir was a minister, or person who held an important
position in the government.
3. There were strikes, assassination attempts, and unrest
in the conquered provinces.
4. Students' answers will vary but should include the idea
that new ideas and skills can enrich a society.
